Jeepney Fare increases 1 Peso in Luzon starting February 24

P1 jeepney fare hike approved effective Feb. 24, 2017.

PHILIPPINES — Beginning February 24, Friday, the minimum jeepney fare in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon and Mimaropa regions is back to P8.00
The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has approved the petition of several transport groups to increase to P8.00 the minimum fare in jeepneys.
The minimum fare hike was prompted by the price hike on petrol products in the market.
“We requested to return the fare to the original one. This is because of the increasing prices of petroleum products which now reach P37 per liter,” said Alliance of Transport Organizations (ACTO) president, Efren de Luna.
In addition, Elvira Medina, president of the National Center for Commuters Safety believes the fare hike is reasonable, and would help jeepney drivers earn enough money.
“This is not burdensome to the commuters. We are one with the jeepney drivers in their everyday experiences,” she said.
Meanwhile, aside from passenger jeepneys, the LTFRB also approved the petition of some taxi operators to return the flag down rate in taxi cabs to P40.00.
The agency, however, clarified that the approval covers only the taxi companies under the Panay taxi operators, Cebu taxi operators and Philippine National Taxi Operators Association.
The LTFRB has decided only on the flag down rate petition and has yet to study other petitions of taxi operators.
